The Edmonton Veterinary Rehabilitation Clinic is the first veterinary rehabilitation clinic in Alberta to be recognized and licensed by the Alberta Veterinary Medical Association. Veterinary physical rehabilitation is an often over looked, but evolving field in veterinary medicine and as veterinary medicine continues to become more advanced, the rate of success for animals surviving from injuries and illnesses has greatly increased.

The goal of veterinary rehabilitation is to facilitate a patient’s recovery from orthopedic and neurological surgery, injury and illness. We achieve this by offering a unique collaboration of veterinary medicine and veterinary rehabilitation. Our rehabilitation team is comprised of veterinarians and animal health technicians that have an extensive background in the veterinary medical profession and share a common passion for offering progressive medicine to our patients that will increase the longevity and quality of their lives.

We are a referral practice that sees both inpatients and outpatients. An initial examination is performed by one of our certified veterinarians. The evaluation includes an extensive orthopedic and neurological exam, gait analysis, pain assessment, goniometric and girth measurements. Based on the veterinarian’s findings during this evaluation, a customized rehabilitation program is created and the exercises and modalities are performed by one of our certified veterinary technicians.

Veterinary rehabilitation uses therapeutic exercises, hydrotherapy, manual therapy and numerous modalities to achieve better pain management, conditioning, increased joint mobility, muscular strength and endurance.

We believe that as a pet owner, you play a key role in the success of your pet’s recovery. Once your pet is seen on an outpatient basis, you will be responsible for continuing the exercises at home. This is the part of recovery where you get to assume the role of care taker. A Home Exercise Program will be created to meet your pet’s needs. We will go over each exercise with you to make sure that you are comfortable enough to do them in a safe and effective manner.
